BH JOURNALISTS: Konaković must stop targeting media and journalists via social networks

Sarajevo, 05.10.2025. – The Sttering Committee of the BH Journalists Association and the Free Media Help Line (FMHL) demand that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Elmedin Konaković stop targeting journalists and the media via social networks through video content posted on his Facebook profile.

On Saturday, October 4, Minister Konaković published a video clip in which he inappropriately and manipulatively talks to the editor-in-chief of Dnevni avaz Evelina Traka, and in the manner of an “influencer” he tries to discredit this editor and the media outlet through his own political showdown with Fahrudin Radončić, the owner of Dnevni avaz. In a similar way, unworthy of the ministerial position he holds, Elmedin Konaković has in recent months published his own video statements and offensive comments on social networks against journalists and editors of the Istraga, Slobodna Bosna, Politički and Hayat television portals, abusing his public office to exert political pressure and online violence against the aforementioned media outlets and their journalists.

The Sttering Committee of the BH Journalists Association and FMHL strongly condemn targeted political pressure on the media and journalists via social networks, and call on Minister Konaković to reduce public communication with and about the media to the framework of polite and professional dialogue, as well as legitimate reactions to media content, in the manner defined by the rules of the code of journalistic ethics and the legal framework for the work of the media and journalists.

At the same time, BH Journalists remind Elemedin Konaković that his engagement, as the leader of the People and Justice party and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, includes public responsibility for what he says, which does not end with leaving the office and going out onto the street. In this context, Konaković’s targeting of Dnevni avaz and other media outlets that are not “to his liking”, including using his own political followers for an organized campaign and spreading intolerance against certain media outlets and journalists, is completely unacceptable. It is indicative that such behavior has been going on for years, without any sanctions for Konaković’s behavior or social condemnation.

BH Journalists demand from Elmedin Konković respect for media freedoms and the integrity of journalists and editors, emphasizing that Konaković’s political and public engagement, often directed against media freedoms, should be reduced to the framework of democratic values and in accordance with European standards of freedom of expression.
