Journalist and Editor Muriz Čengić Has Passed Away

Veteran journalist and editor of Dnevni avaz, Muriz Čengić, passed away today at the age of 77. He leaves behind a rich professional career and an indelible mark on the newsroom to which he devoted most of his working life.

“He was part of Avaz from its very first issue, and over the course of his many years of work he held various journalistic and editorial positions. He edited the domestic politics section and the DESK, and through his dedicated work, knowledge and experience made a significant contribution to the development of the newspaper. He retired from Avaz, but left behind much more than professional achievements – the memory of a man who, through his attitude towards his work and colleagues, marked an era of journalism,” Dnevni avaz writes.

“His door was always open, and his willingness to help others was a quality for which his colleagues will remember him in particular. He was a professional in the truest sense of the word, but also a man whose humanity, collegiality and calmness left a mark on the everyday life of the newsroom,” reads the text in which his colleagues bid farewell to Muriz Čengić.

The funeral prayer and burial will take place on Monday, 5 October 2026, at 4:30 p.m. at the Nišan-Jarčedoli cemetery.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our colleague Muriz Čengić.
